Dom Fell - our 1st XI SkipperWelcome to the Senior Teams section - ultimately, this is what our club is all about.

Dear All,

As some of you may be aware, Rob Bell has stepped down as First XI skipper due to increasing work commitments. I am delighted to say that Rob will continue to play for the club, he is a pivotal member of the First XI and I am certain that he will enjoy a tremendous season.

I have taken over the reins of the First XI in what looks like being an extremely exciting year for all concerned at the club. With several new members, the return of some, and the prospect of some more returning as the season progresses has meant that we start the 2009 league season in fine shape.

There is real competition for places within all 3 Saturday sides, and the selection meetings held so far have been full of discussion and debate. It is surely healthy and in the best interests of the club that players are moved up and down the sides depending on form, fitness and team balance – this is what we aim to create.

I would like to take this opportunity of formally welcoming Andrew Ryan, our overseas player for the 2009 season. An off-spinner and left handed bat, Andrew has settled in quickly to life at the Park and with his surrogate parents Dave and Helen. I am sure he will be a real asset to the club and hope he enjoys his time here with us. Indeed welcome to all our new members, I am certain you will all find Worcester Park a friendly and welcoming place to play cricket this summer.

The aim for all the 3 Saturday sides may vary slightly according to respective leagues and strengths but we must all look to improve on our finishing position of last year and show progression.  The First XI will be aiming for promotion and there is no reason why this should not be achieved. Johnny Evans and the Seconds will be aiming to challenge once again for promotion to the Second XI Premier Division. Chris Jackson will be aiming for the Saturday 3s to blood some youngsters, develop the talent we have at the club and finish in the top four.

Pre-season has come and gone – only the League awaits. Highlights on the pitch include Club Chairman Mike Byford’s 121* vs East Molesey, Rob Waite’s 84* vs Indian Gymkana and John Rivenell taking 5-18 vs Old Ruts. I hope everyone has had the chance to play before the real games begin!

Training continues every Wednesday 6-8 under the guidance of Stu Kelly. We had a great turn out last week and we really want to sustain that throughout the season. I would urge you all the attend when you can – we all know that training regularly improves us as players, no matter what stage of your career you are at, let’s all make a concerted effort this season.

Finally I would urge you all to regularly check the website for events occurring at the club. Steve Clark and the Social Committee have several planned throughout the season, and also, remember that subscriptions are due now!

I hope you have a fruitful and successful Summer

Dom Fell

Club Captain
